The Beausejour Community Council, located in Blue Basin, Trinidad is one of the oldest village/community councils in the country. Throughout the years, we have constantly expanded our goals to meet the needs of the members in our community and neighbouring areas. The Homework Centre, operating within the Beausejour Community Centre through the work of three volunteer tutors, has been operating for two (2) years, starting off with a little under twenty students in 2017. It now caters to the educational needs of over seventy five registered students and more than one hundred others within the community. These students mainly come from homes that are unable to fully afford material needed for schooling, and, as such, it is our aim to ensure that every child is granted equal learning opportunities, regardless of their financial or social backgrounds.
We are aiming to raise funds for the following items:
- Provision of learning material (school textbooks, copybooks/notebooks)
- Educational Outings to nearby Libraries, Museums etc.
- Replacement and Repairs to toilet and bath facilities.
As a group dedicated to Poverty Alleviation through Education, any assistance given to raise these funds will be greatly appreciated not only by the Council, but the members of the community as well. One small step to achieving our goals plays a major role in the futures of the younger generation.
