Hello, My name is Geremias Mai Marcano. I am a Venezuelan immigrant enrolled as a full-time student at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). While I'm in my last term of the programme at UTT, I have been accepted to do my master's degree in Artist Masters - Performance (Advanced Instrumental Studies Oboe) at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, UK.
Although this is the most significant opportunity of my life, the financial resources to make it happen are a challenge for me.

I'm writing to ask you for your support to help me make this dream possible with your contributions.

My musical journey started in Cariaco, Sucre-state, Venezuela, There, I joined the EL Systema - music programme as an oboe student when I was 14 years old and became a music teacher four years later. In the El Systema programme I was teaching musical language, recorder, flute and oboe to 6+ years old kids and was part of the Symphonic Orchestra of Cariaco conducted by Maestro Jesus Acosta, who was also my oboe teacher.
Being part of the Symphonic orchestra made me fall in love with music. In every practice and every performance, I was able to connect closer to the music and express it through my oboe. I knew this was my passion.

Four years ago, I had to take the hard decision of leaving my country due to the biggest economic crisis in Venezuela. This situation was very difficult, with no food and no chance to live in peace. The experience of leaving my country was very bad and frustrating because I left my family and lost all my dreams of becoming a professional musician, but God is great.

I came to Trinidad having my uncle’s support and a new journey started.

Here in Trinidad, I had to perform different jobs that I was not used to in order to get an income and live, but at the same time, I got to meet some good people and was able to join the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Trinidad and Tobago, perform with the Lydians Singers, teach at Birdsong academic school, volunteer at the Heroes Foundation as a teacher in a migrant programme and study at the University of Trinidad and Tobago.

God is giving me the chance to dream again and become a professional oboe player. Guildhall has already awarded me with the highest scholarship they provide to students but still, I would have to apply for a student permit and show that I would be able to support myself while I am a student in London.
