Plagued by a pandemic, women and girls are locked down with their perpetrators in homes that are no longer safe. Each day, they cry out for security from a world in turmoil. Beatings, wounding’s and threats are common while the sexual abuse and murder of women continue to rise.
As an experienced Trinidadian documentary filmmaker, I aim to shatter the silence on domestic violence by producing a 3-part documentary film on this growing social problem. My Skin, My Tears will tell stories of abuse and violence of women and girls quarantined at home and silenced into submission. State institutions, eager to protect them are often too late to respond to their cries.
The donations to produce My Skin, My Tears will satisfy pre-production and production expenses – that is hiring a film crew, a cast of actors and pay for licences, permissions and the customising of music. This film promises to be a visual delight and will contain drone images of our Caribbean island, re-enactments, a reading from Caribbean literature peppered with promises which will prequel images spliced with marital violence.
This documentary will intrigue and repel. It would allow women and girls to tell their stories in their own voices as it takes viewers on a quest for courage as they come to understand the effects of domestic violence on our families and children.
