While Covid 19 surges through a world in lockdown, domestic violence floods the globe and as a Trinidadian documentary filmmaker, I want to shatter the silence on domestic violence and produce a 3-series documentary film on this pressing problem. The Hidden Crime: Violence Against Men will explore how men quarantined at home with oppressive spouses seek to escape from their abuse and violence. I am keen to explore how Caribbean men, inoculated with machoism, cope when silenced into submission by state institutions that fail to protect them. This is a story that must be told!
The Hidden Crime: Violence Against Men is partially complete so the required donations are expected to pay for customised music, to pay production staff and crew as well as to provide promotional material to create awareness of this hidden crime against men.
The documentary would allow the men to tell their stories in their own voices as viewers experience the daily life and struggle in the homes of men fighting for sanity, in a country where violence wreaks havoc in our homes.
