I am a young budding Agri- entrepreneur working from the deep parts of south Trinidad located in the Caribbean.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have had passion for working with animals and plants. My dream was always to become a veterinarian and found the happiness part of my life was when I started a small garden growing tomato, patchoi, parsley in the back yard. I remember fondly of begging my dad to purchase a chicken when we visited the agro-shop...then begging up to 4 because I didn’t want them to be lonely. I justified that it was for my business and promising that when they got older that we would cook it as per a business. (I never did though, lol). I grew too attached to them, rolling them inside the tray of the wheelbarrow and carrying them to my little garden and spending the entire day playing in dirt. That year, we were never out of seasoning and my mom really did appreciate eating truly organic patchoi.
My parents (bless their souls), they tried to execute that dream as well, formulating the building blocks for that dream by acquiring state land for agricultural purposes as well as where we live... I love it there and it seemed so promising, but life has a funny way of always keeping you 10 steps behind in the field of agriculture in this country. We had goats and sheep and thought we could sell them as is or use them for milk (the goats, I don’t know anyone who drinks sheep milk lol). After a few years, it just wasn’t something we could continue doing as thieves would come and take them, once even killing it under a big tree and just leaving the head. (Trust me- I had nightmares for months)
My dream to become a veterinarian died when I learnt that part of the job was to put animals to sleep, and I honestly told myself that I just couldn’t do it. I went on to stay in the science field and learn more about the world we live in, but I had strayed from what was my true passion. I found deep appreciation for the technological world, and currently I work as a data analyst. Despite straying, it remained in my heart to one day have an agricultural business, I saw how I could automate activities to make life a lot easier in the agricultural world... (put trackers in animals) and it’s not that out of the way because they already do it in other parts of the world. I visualize in my head a full vertical farming business using smart technology... but without killing animals.
Even though I spent years writing things down, I couldn’t accumulate the funds to start a business that requires a lot of up-front start-up cost and navigate a livelihood for myself and my family. Plus, it's always easiest on paper; execution is the difficult part... and if that was difficult, putting in the effort and having it stolen away from you really is heart breaking. BUT I have a will.
So here I am, asking for help... to accumulate the funds to complete just enough work to go over the hill in terms risk management as well as doing enough that things could start to build on itself. I know what I want for 25% of the property, and I need to execute this before 27th January 2022. I know what I need, where I need it and how it needs to get done, but with my current savings... I just wouldn’t be able to accomplish that goal. I know there are available resources like banking services just for agricultural needs, but you really are putting yourself in a high-risk place due to the nature of the business and it being a start-up.

I have worked out a plan, for achieving parts of the holistic plan in 3-month periods. The first part of the plan is to clear 25% of the total area (not trees, just bush as i have request permission to cut lumber) and using husbandry principles- start planting fruit trees (avocadoes, breadfruits, nutmeg etc). which is for more long-term goals, but also coupling with short term crops like ginger, cassava, and herbs (not the smoking type lol).
I am asking your help to raise $25000.00TTD to accomplish this goal. Off course I know that it may seem like a lot, but when you consider the cost of starting up any company or funding any dream... it is usually.
I always say, the answer might be no if I ask... but if I never ask, it will always be no. Help me get achieve this dream, please help me find my way.
