On January 27th, 2021 National boxer, Olympic hopeful, Michael Alexander was involved in a vehicular accident in Diego Martin, that left him in a critical condition. He was released from Port of Spain General Hospital on Wednesday 26th February 2021 after battling a punctured lung, broken bones and severe head trauma, among other injuries. He is now in for a new challenge and his long road to recovery has begun. Michael now is need of 250,000 TTD to assist him with his recovery process.
The twenty-seven-year-old is a highly decorated national athlete, he accomplished many great things in the sport.
Caribbean Youth & Women’s Championships, Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago (July 22-25, 2008)- He grabbed Silver, his lost came from Ricardo Blackman.
Trinidad and Tobago National Championships- Port of Spain- January 10-12, 2012. He grabbed his first elite title after he defeated Stephen Charles in the 60kg finals, and he then secured his spot for the Olympic Qualification Team. In the American Olympic Qualifier- Rio de Janeiro, Brazil- May 5-12, 2012 he lost to Jose Ramirez, USA.
Pan American Championships in 2013 he grabbed a Bronze Medal then he got Bronze at CAC and Commonwealth games, a year later, 2014.
At the Central American and Caribbean Games- Barranquilla, Columbia. 2018 (CAC Games) he grabbed a silver medal after an intense bout with Cuba.
Recently in 2019 at the Pan American Games he walked away with a bronze medal. Michael etched his name in history later that year, when he became the first boxer since 1974 to win a bout at the World Championships in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
Michael’s last performance in the ring was at the Caribbean Championships in Trinidad, December 2019, where he secured a silver medal against a close bout with Cuban Jorge Moiran.
He was internationally ranked as number ten in the world among that he was a former cadet member.
