My sister, Jewel Dookeran, is living with lupus, a serious illness that has changed her life and affected our entire family. Lupus can cause many different health problems and often requires ongoing medical care, medication, tests, and hospital visits. While we continue to support Jewel with love and hope, the financial cost of her medical needs has become increasingly difficult for our family to manage. One of the most difficult parts of Jewel’s journey has been her experiences within the public healthcare system. There have been times when getting the medical attention she needed was extremely challenging. Long waits, hospital visits, limited resources, horrable treatment by doctors, being abused by medical staff, burns on skin, thrombosis veins, vomiting blood, and difficulties accessing necessary care have added even more stress to an already difficult situation. Watching my sister go through these experiences has been heartbreaking. She has had to deal with the challenges of lupus while also facing the difficulties that can come with trying to receive proper and timely medical care. Despite everything she has experienced, Jewel continues to face each day with courage and the support of her family. We are reaching out to our family, friends, community, and anyone who is willing to help us raise funds for Jewel’s medical expenses. The money raised will help with medications, medical appointments, tests, transportation, and other necessary costs associated with her treatment and care.
