Imagine this...
It's 2 a.m. in Port of Spain. The rain is pouring. A mother huddles under a bus shelter with her two young children, their stomachs empty for the second day in a row. In San Fernando, an elderly man who once built houses for others now sleeps on cardboard, his body aching from years of hard labour and nights exposed to the elements. In Arima, Chaguanas, Tobago—across our twin-island nation—hundreds of our fellow Trinbagonians wake up every morning not knowing if they'll eat today.
Right now, official figures show at least 676 socially displaced (homeless) people across Trinidad and Tobago. But everyone who works on the ground knows the real number is higher. Many more live in the shadows—in informal settlements, abandoned buildings, or on the streets—because of job loss, family breakdown, mental health struggles, rising living costs, and a severe shortage of affordable housing. About 20% of our population already lives below the poverty line, and food insecurity is a daily battle in a country where a healthy meal feels out of reach for too many.
These aren't "statistics." These are people—fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, grandparents—who laugh, dream, and bleed just like us. Many fell into homelessness after a single crisis: losing a job, a health emergency, domestic violence, or the quiet erosion of dignity that poverty brings. They are our neighbours, our countrymen, our human family.
My name is Alex , and I'm from St. Anns Port-Of-Spain. I've seen the pain in their eyes when I (and volunteers) hand out whatever we can. A hot meal isn't just food—it's hope. It's a reminder that someone cares. It's the strength to face another day without giving up.
That's why I'm launching this campaign: to distribute nutritious food and essential supplies directly to homeless individuals and families across Trinidad and Tobago.
What would your donations be used for Hot?
1. Hot meals & food hampers: Rice, provisions, chicken/fish, vegetables, bread, milk, water, and non-perishables. One meal can cost as little as $20–$40 TT, but a full day's nourishment or family hamper makes a real difference
2. Hygiene & personal care kits: Soap, toothpaste, sanitary products, deodorant, towels—basic dignity that many take for granted.
3.Clothing & blankets: Especially important during rainy seasons and cooler nights.
4.Transportation & outreach: Fuel to reach remote areas, underserved communities in Tobago, and street spots in major towns.
5. Partnerships: We'll work with trusted local groups like Living Water Community, the Trinidad and Tobago Food Bank, and other grassroots volunteers to ensure supplies get where they're needed most—no waste, maximum impact.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 This will fund thousands of meals and dozens of outreach distributions over the next 6–12 months. Every dollar counts. If we surpass the goal, we'll expand to more frequent outreaches and basic medical/first-aid support.
Why This Matters—And Why Now
In a nation as rich in spirit, culture, and resources as ours, no one should have to choose between sleeping on the pavement and going to bed hungry. A simple act of kindness—a packed meal, a clean shirt, a kind word—can restore someone's faith in humanity.
We've seen it before: one hot soup from a community kitchen, one blanket on a cold night, one conversation that leads someone toward help. Small donations from ordinary people like you have powered soup kitchens and food banks here for years. Now, we're scaling it up with your help.
This isn't charity. It's solidarity. It's Trinis looking out for Trinis. It's saying: "You are seen. You are not forgotten. We are in this together."
How We'll Keep You Updated.
1. Regular photo and video updates from outreaches.
2. Receipts and breakdown of every expense shared publicly.
3. Stories of the lives touched.
4.Live or recorded distribution days so you can see your impact.
Even $50 TT can feed a family for a day.
$200 TT can provide hygiene kits for 10 people.
$1,000 TT can power a full island-wide outreach.
If you can't donate, share this campaign with your family, WhatsApp groups, Facebook, Instagram, and workplace. Every share reaches someone who can help.
Together, we can make sure that tonight—and many nights to come—no one in our beautiful country has to sleep hungry.
From the bottom of my heart: Thank you.
