Rubadiri Victor and the Artists' Coalition of Trinidad & Tobago (ACTT) are about to launch a historic exhibition called ‘PANTHEON 1: THE KING AND QUEEN COSTUMES OF TRINIDAD & TOBAGO CARNIVAL’ to be held in Woodford Square, Port of Spain from Wednesday 24th February – Saturday 27th February 2021 under the auspices of the Mayor and Council of the City of Port of Spain.
The Kings and Queen Costumes are the crown spectacles of Trinidad & Tobago Carnival artisanry. They lead bands of costumed individuals as Monarchs across stages and through the streets. They are the culmination of the imaginative, decorative, and engineering arts of the island, We have never had a National Exhibition celebrating them. 99% of the costumes are destroyed after Carnival Tuesday...
The exhibition investigates questions of the loss of Legacy and Traditions by the absence of Institutions of Memory and is an art installation compelling us to ask serious questions as Trinbagonians about the future of our Culture...
Rubadiri Victor and ACTT have a 20+ year history of defending Heritage, battling for local Traditions, and documenting our Creative Heroes. Mounting exhibitions are expensive, and Legacy research, documentation, and Heritage-based projects are not supported locally by government and the private sector. Rubadiri and ACTT have an ambitious agenda to create coffee-table books documenting our History for our next generations and creating a permanent home for a proper Multi-Media Museum of our Creative Arts. Help us offset the cost of the PANTHEON 1 exhibition and our Heritage Projects for 2021.
PANTHEON 1 will launch at 1pm on Wednesday 24th Feb and Costumes will dance on Saturday 27th from 11am- 4pm. The show is part of a larger Legacy saving initiative called PROJECT MEMORY.
Please come and visit PANTHEON whilst it is up, It will be a thought provoking meditation on our local Genius. The exhibition is also a statement to the World that Trinidad & Tobago is still the Home of Carnival and that Port of Spain is its City! We believe it is our national duty to make this statement.
