Hello everyone! I hope that you are all keeping well..
My name is Rahil Babooram.
I'm a singer/songwriter/musician/performer with 4 original albums, who has been active publicly since 1997.

Music has always been my activity, whether it brought in money or not, but I have been starting making a living with my music career, moreso in the last 5 years.

In the last couple years being a registered Music TT performer, I'd be performing weekly, sometimes up to 3 times a week under their Live Music District programme, and earning from my music in this way.

Independently, I also have been performing at many rock shows, private gigs and public pub/bar gigs throughout my career, and in the last few years, finances from these have begun to show more than in previous times.

I also had been hosting a regular weekly karaoke event and weekly live performance night at a pub in my area (that I was paid for weekly) right up to the very week that the covid restrictions were announced in April 2020.

Unfortunately, due to covid, pubs/bars and all the usual venues had to be shut down..
It was only in July with the partial re-opening that I was able to play 4 gigs, only 1 of those gigs I made any money (I made $800 from the tip bucket).

Thereafter, all again was restricted for the use of venues/restriction of people being at bars/pubs/etc. and as a result the situation is quite dire.
The kind Artistes/Creatives Grant from the Ministry of Culture of $5000 that was awarded in August only lasted so long, and us creatives have no idea what holds for us into the start of 2021 regarding earning in public spaces/venues with our art.

My aim with my campaign on this wonderful FundMeTnT campaign site is to have an avenue open for any financial contributions from the public while I am an “out of work performer/artiste”, as I continue to do my music performances and endeavours online UNTIL public venue restrictions are lifted.

Regarding this initial campaign amount of $5000 – this was usually how much I would have made monthly from all performances and music work in a good month during 2017 until covid (and in a not so good month, at least $1000).

EDIT: 2021/07/06 - i have increased the campaign amount to $20,000 because since May 2021, our nation has been under State of Emergency, with continued lockdown restrictions, curfew etc., and all venues of course have been continued to be closed and this may continue for quite sometime due to increased numbers of infections..
