My name is Bhawani Persad, and I have been blind since birth. Cricket is a sport I have loved and followed thanks to radio commentary for many years. At the school for blind children, we played cricket sometimes using a ball as big as a football or even as small as an orange on a normal cricket pitch or a drain that was safe to play in or even on a table in the passageway. During my time at school, we were fortunate to be given balls with bells inside but in true West Indian fashion because of our ability to hit the ball hard, these did not last very long.

In 1996, a formal structure was approved by blind persons around the world which now allows cricket for the blind to be played professionally and competitively.

In 2005, a West Indian blind cricket organization was launched, and I served as its first secretary general from inception to 2014, when I became the administrator until 2024. I was also the first president of the local blind cricket organization.

In addition, I also served in various capacities on the World Blind Cricket Organization
I recently received an invitation from the Barbados Blind Cricket Association to attend their hosting of a regional tournament the first after Covid to be held from 20th May - 1st June 2025

In this regard, I would like your support through this FundMeTnT initiative to help me participate fully in an official position.

My role and responsibilities will include,

Providing ground commentary on days of matches.
Providing match summaries and reports after each game to the local, regional, and international media after each game.
Assisting or advising the hosting agency when required.
Being a match referee when required.
