IMPORTANT NOTICE:
YOUR CARD STATEMENT WILL SHOW AS BLUE GURUZ INC.
SMATT was founded nine years ago when our directors discovered an avenue to contribute meaningfully to the overall
well-being of our individual communities, specifically through the empowerment of single mothers. The Association was
officially registered on April 28th 2017 with four directors.
In the Fifth Session of the Eleventh Parliament (2019/2020), the Joint Select Committee on Human Rights, Equality and
Diversity, officially recognized SMATT as an organization “which enables and empowers single parents to become
aware of their rights as well as the rights of the child for a better future.”
SMATT has provided assistance including (but not limited to):
● Accessing basic legal advice; providing understanding of legal rights
● Assisting in the development of entrepreneurial efforts
● Donation drives for basic needs: food, clothing, household supplies, back to school supplies, etc.
● Rescue from domestic violence
Even though, we are the Single Mother's Association of Trinidad and Tobago, our beneficiaries are the children, hence, we are now seeking funding to open two SMATT Ruth's Empowerment Centers for displaced women and children dealing with domestic violence, rape, poverty and economic instability .
Due to the pandemic and the new norm, there are many displaced women and children in dire need of help. We at SMATT has received an overwhelming amount of request for assistance from mothers who are in abusive relationships desirous of leaving, being evicted or simply have nowhere to go.
With the copious amount of outcries and consideration for the children being affected, SMATT came to the decision of
launching the Ruth’s Empowerment Centre, one in Trinidad and the other in Tobago.
At these centres, it is our desire to assist single mothers and their children with temporary shelter of 3-6 months.
Other services rendered includes but not limited to:
● Chapel services
● Government rendered counselling sessions
● Professional development
● Childcare services
● Training programs
● Hot meals
We are seeking assistance for the upkeep of both centres.
