My name is David Wears and I really need to THANK you all who liked shared and commented on the image I photographed of the father, carrying his son's bags as he walked them to school 2 days ago. The photo became so popular on Social Media, and a couple friends and neighbours of his messaged me about him, sharing his story. I was so impassioned by the messages that I went out looking for him to find out how long has he been doing this.
His name is Dean Phillip and he lives in Cocorite with his wife and 10 children. Dean had a car but it's not been working for over 3 months now. It wasn't a new car, but he was able to carry 6 of the children to and from their school everyday. Since the vehicle's been down, he now walks the children to and from school. He starts at 6 am when he walks his daughter to Mucurapo West Secondary School, a distance of 2.5 km. He then returns home, in Cocorite, to collect his 5 sons, where he will walk them to Four Roads Government Primary School in Diego Martin, about 3.8 km. He then walks to work at Long Circular Road, about 5 km away. He finishes his job at 12 noon and returns home to have a bath and return to pick up his daughter at Mucurapo Sec, at 2 pm, drop her home, then to go Four Roads Primary to pick up 2 of the boys, drop them home and again return at 5 pm to pick up the other 3 boys who are taking lessons.
This my friends, is a day in the life of Dean Phillip. There are times his wife would do the walking to collect their children, with no complaints.
When I reached out to them, he told me about their car and I spoke with the mechanic who is trying to get it working again. He says it will cost about $4,000 to have it road worthy again. I am here today to ask that we help to fund this hard working couple, who never complains, to aid in repairing their vehicle.
