Kosiah Hampton is a vibrant two year old child who was diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect which is a birth defect of the heart in which there is a hole in the wall that separates the two lower chambers of the heart. This changes the direction of blood flow in the heart and lungs. The hole lets oxygen-rich blood go back into the lungs, instead of going out to the body. Oxygen-rich blood and oxygen-poor blood now mix together. This happened to him where he has been in and out of the SFGH inclusive of being in ICU. Those times were terrible, countless sleepless nights, lots of praying and not eating, feeling stressed and depressed, its very difficult for him and also unbearable at times for the family especially us the parents an his siblings and we never want him to constantly be going through this ordeal. The doctors informed us that it is necessary to begin treatment to help resolve this issue because it could get worse.
The first part of treatment is to undergo surgical closure (heart surgery) at St. Clair Mefical which is costing $97,000.00 following this, further treatment may be required at Miami hospital at a much greater cost.
