Hi, my name is Sarika! I am not only a healthcare professional but I am a daughter facing one of the most difficult journeys of my life. I am a pharmacist by training, and for years I have been closely involved in the preparation and handling of chemotherapy treatments for cancer patients. I have stood on the clinical side of this disease—supporting, advising, and helping others fight. Today, I find myself on the other side, fighting alongside my mother.
My mom has been bravely battling cancer, but her disease has stopped responding to traditional chemotherapy. Her doctors have now recommended immunotherapy, a treatment that offers hope where chemotherapy no longer can. This treatment is required over the course of two years and has already shown promise in her case. We have managed to complete a few cycles here in Trinidad, but the financial burden has become overwhelming. The cost of ongoing treatment locally is extremely high, and sustaining it long-term is no longer feasible for us.
As a family, we are now looking toward the United States, where access to this treatment is more consistent and, in some cases, more affordable. However, even with more accessible care, the overall expenses—including treatment, travel, and associated medical costs—remain far beyond what we can manage alone.
I never imagined that the knowledge I gained as a pharmacist would one day be used to navigate my own mother’s care so personally. This journey has been emotionally and financially draining, but we are holding on to hope. My mom is strong, and she wants to keep fighting.
We are reaching out for support to help us continue her immunotherapy treatment and give her the best possible chance at more time, more memories, and more life. Any contribution, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to continuing her care.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for being a part of this fight with us.
