**A Cry for Help in Manzanilla: A Father's Silent Struggle**
On Tuesday evening, our team ventured to the remote area of South Manzanilla Road, where we met Roger Thomas—a single father doing his utmost to provide for his two children, Nyla (11) and Nyron (9). Their home, a fragile wooden shack, has no running water or electricity of its own. Their light comes from the generosity of a neighbor who shares a bit of power through an extension cord so the kids can study at night.
Mr. Thomas works hard, doing odd jobs like helping coconut vendors and neighbors, but despite his efforts, the situation is heartbreaking. With a deep love for agriculture and cooking, his dreams remain just that—unattainable due to his financial struggles and the deteriorating state of their home. Their mother is no longer involved in their lives, offering no support or comfort to the children she barely visits.
The reality is stark. The children are without their textbooks for school, and Mr. Thomas could only afford one pair of shoes and pants for them to share. As we stood there, we watched him kill a snake that had crawled into their collapsing home, yet through it all, Nyla and Nyron remain hopeful, contented, and full of dreams. When we asked Nyron what he wanted to be when he grew up, his response was simple but full of hope: “A police officer.”
But how much longer can hope alone carry this family?
We are reaching out to you, our community, to come together and make a difference.
- Can you provide groceries to sustain them?
- Are you able to help with basic repairs to their home?
- Could you donate the school books they need to succeed?
Every small act counts. Together, we can lift up this family and bring light into their lives.
