My name is Gabriella Wyke and I am an artist and photographer from Trinidad and Tobago. Recently, I entered a competition know as the Boynes Emerging Artist Award which is geared towards supporting emerging artists like myself to develop their artistic careers.

Upon applying for the award, I am honored to be selected as the 6th edition, 1st place winner! This has afforded me the awesome opportunity to have a 3 month artist residency in Sardina, Italy where I will continue my photo-based project, “Her Voice.” Her Voice which is dedicated to giving women a platform to express their own opinions about gender-based violence (GBV) began in 2021 as a response to the loss of Trinidadian women: Ashanti Reily, Andrea Bharatt, Keithisha Cudjoe and others who were all victims of GBV.

As gender-based violence is an issue that affects women worldwide, my hope is to extend the same platform to the women of Sardinia who may also need a safe space to share their true and honest opinions.

While the Boynes Emerging Artist Award covers my accommodation for the 3 month period, I am responsible for funding both my travel and living expenses during my stay.

With just under 9 months to raise enough funds, I will appreciate your support in helping me see this mission through! Doing this residency will not only be a once in a life time experience for a budding artist like me but it will help me to continue giving a voice to women everywhere!
