Mother of Four in Desperate Need of Medical Assistance

Candy George, a mother of four, and her mother Pearl George are grappling with debilitating diseases that render them unable to function due to severe pain and shortness of breath.

Candy developed atrial tachycardia, a form of abnormal heart rhythm, after she gave birth to her 9 month old son. On top of this, she has asthma, gallstones and hiatus hernia that causes the upper part of her stomach to bulge through the large muscle separating her abdomen and chest.

Candy has been warded at the hospital on several occasions because her body is not responding to pain medication, and the hernia is now affecting her oxygen levels, making it difficult for her to adequately care for her young kids.

Her intense pain and breathing issues can be remedied with surgery, but because of the pandemic, all non-essential surgeries have been cancelled at the public hospitals. Her doctors have advised her to seek private assistance. Candy’s insurance will cover part of the bill, but she is still liable to pay TTD$15,550 for the surgery or approximately USD $3,000. This fee is apart other related medical expenses/tests.
